Gaelic
Football

The
Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) was established
in 1884 to develop traditional field sports,
including football, hurling, camogie and handball.
The local club, Naomh Columba, has been very
successful in football competitions. It has
won the County Championship on a number of occasions.
The owners of Óstán Shliab Liag,
Noel and Paul Hegarty, have a close association
with Gaelic football
Noel
Hegarty was one of the players on the team which
brought the All Ireland Championship Cup, the
Sam McGuire, home to Donegal in 1992. A historic
year for Donegal Football!
Paul
Hegarty has a close association with both the
Naomh Columba team in Donegal, and continuing
to play with the Tir Chonail Gaels of London.
Past
Owner/Managers of the pub have been Paddy J
McGinley, who was involved with training underage
football, and John Joe Doherty who managed the
Sliabh Liag.
